Student Achievements

Congratulations to Jeremy Ledger, M.A. 2007, for being admitted with full funding to the University of Michigan’s Ph.D. program in History! Jeremy will begin his doctoral studies at the University of Michigan in Fall 2007.

Congratulations to Stacey Menchel, M.A. expected September 2007, for being awarded a Susan Eliakim Siman Scholarship for Sephardic Studies for Summer 2007.  The award will help fund field research in Spain for her project on how Jews in Spain today relate to the great Sephardic legacy of the Iberian peninsula. 

Recipients of Summer 2007 West European Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships

Valerie McGuire (Italian) received a FLAS award to study intermediate modern Greek. She studied at the Lexis Language School in Crete.

Tes Slominski (Music) was awarded a FLAS fellowship to study intermediate Irish language. She studied this summer at Oideas Gael in Ireland. 

Stephen Smith (Historical Musicology) received a FLAS fellowship to study intermediate German. He studied at the Goethe Institut in Berlin, Germany.

Recipients of 2007-08 Academic Year West European Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships

Kerri Farrell (Irish Studies) received a FLAS award to study intermediate Irish language. She is pursuing a Master's in Irish Studies and hopes to continue on to a doctorate in Irish literature.

Anthony Marroney (European and Mediterranean Studies) was awarded a FLAS fellowship to study advanced Italian. His language study is integral to his educational and professional goals. After completing a Master's in European and Mediterranean Studies, he hopes to enroll in a joint law degree program with an Italian university, which would enable him to earn an American J.D. and an Italian M.S. in Law.

Tara Mikkilineni (International Law) received a FLAS fellowship to study intermediate French, which will be useful as she works toward an L.L.M. in International Law, concentrating on legal questions surrounding the political participation of minorities in Western European countries such as France.
