Student AchievementsCongratulations to Jeremy Ledger, M.A. 2007, for being admitted with full funding to the University of Michigan’s Ph.D. program in History! Jeremy will begin his doctoral studies at the University of Michigan in Fall 2007.
Congratulations to Stacey Menchel, M.A. 2007, for being awarded a Susan Eliakim Siman Scholarship for Sephardic Studies for Summer 2007. The award will help fund field research in Spain for her project on how Jews in Spain today relate to the great Sephardic legacy of the Iberian peninsula.
Recipients of Summer 2009 West European Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships
Robbin Gheesling (Gallatin) received a FLAS award to study advanced Italian. She studied at the Dante Alighieri school in Siena, Italy.
Amanda Herrin (Institute of Fine Arts) was awarded a FLAS fellowship to study intermediate Dutch. She studied this summer at Universiteit Leiden in the Netherlands.
Linda Leseman (Journalism) received a FLAS fellowship to study intermediate German. She studied at the Goethe-Institut in Berlin, Germany.
Kelly McMahon (European & Mediterranean Studies) received a FLAS fellowship to study intermediate modern Greek. She studied at the Lexis Centre of Greek Language and Culture in Crete this summer.
Recipients of 2009-10 Academic Year West European Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships
John Adamic (Food Studies) received a FLAS award to study advanced Italian. He is enrolled in NYU Steinhardt School of Education's Master's program in Food Studies. His career goal is to use media to influence the everyday decisions Europeans and others make with regard to how and what they eat.
Jennifer Carden (European and Mediterranean Studies) was awarded a FLAS fellowship to study advanced German. After completing a Master's in European and Mediterranean Studies, she plans to earn a Master's in Library Science. She is interested in pursuing a career as a librarian at a university or government agency.
Felicity Palma (European and Mediterranean Studies) received a FLAS fellowship to study advanced Italian. She is enrolled in NYU's Master's program in European and Mediterranean Studies. After graduating, she hopes to work on human rights issues in an international organization.
Anna Venetsanos (Foreign Language Education) was awarded a FLAS fellowship to study advanced modern Greek, which will be useful as she works toward a Master's in foreign language education at NYU's Steinhardt School of Education. After completing her graduate degree, she hopes to pursue a career as a secondary school teacher of foreign languages (Greek and Italian). |
