M.A. Student Profiles
Vasiliki Amorati received her B.A. degree in International and European Studies with a concentration in International Relations from the Panteion University of Social and Political Studies in Athens, Greece. Prior to the M.A. Program, she interned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Greece and more precisely at the Diplomatic Corps. She also interned at the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) at the Public Information and Private Sector Fund Raising Departments in Greece. Her main academic interests are ethnic minorities, national identity and immigration in the Balkan region, the history of Modern Greece in an international perspective, and comparative studies between Greece and its neighbors. She would like to pursue a Ph.D. in History after the completion of her M.A.
Rachel Anemone received a B.S. in Political Science from Northeastern University. Prior to the M.A. program, she interned at the House of Commons in London, the U.S. House of Representatives, and studied at the London School of Economics. Her primary research focuses are EU-US intelligence studies and the British conservative party. After completing her M.A. degree (expected September 2010), Rachel plans to pursue a law degree or a Ph.D. in Political Science.
Jeremy Bold received his B.A. from University of North Dakota with a major in English Literature/Language and minored in Philosophy. He is also pursuing a Masters degree in Library Science and hoping to become an academic librarian at a research university. He is interested in nihilism.
Matt Bufford received his B.S. in International Affairs from Georgia Tech in 2008. His research interests are transatlantic security, EU policy, and immigration within the E.U., particularly focusing on France and Germany. Matt is currently working as a government consultant for a management consulting firm in the D.C. area.
Adam Cardais earned a B.A. in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Between 2004 and 2009 he worked as a journalist in Central and Eastern Europe, covering political and economic developments in the region as a reporter, columnist, and editor. Adam is interested in European Union expansion, European integration, economic transition in post-Communist countries, European energy security, and the post-war development of the countries of the former Yugoslavia, Kosovo in particular.
Konstantina Choros holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Classical Studies and History. Her primary academic interest is World War II, specifically the Eastern Front, and Balkan History with a focus on Greece. Upon completion of the program, she plans to pursue her Ph.D. in Modern European History.
Christopher Coats holds a B.A. in Latin American Studies and a B.A. in Journalism from the Univeristy of Texas at Austin. Prior to entering NYU, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Federated States of Micronesia and worked as a journalist from 2004-2008 in Spain and New York City. His primary academic interests are immigration and integration policies in teh Mediterranean Region and how national identities and international dynamics have formed each.
Anson Gorga-Highland holds a B.A. in International Relations and Political Science from Syracuse University. His academic focus at CEMS is primarily EU policy, after having spent years studying the politics, he would like to concentrate on European economic policy and political economy. He is also considering possibly pursuing his academic interests to the Ph.D. level after attaining a Master's degree.
Kendra Hughbanks holds a B.A. in International Relations and Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture from Syracuse University. Her primary research interests are sub-nationalism and the embodiment of European culture in language. After completing her Master’s degree, she would like to pursue a higher degree in Spanish.
Dominika Kowszewicz holds a B.A. in European Studies with a minor in German from Royal Holloway University of London and she also spent a year studying as an Erasmus exchange student at Ruprecht-Karls-Universitaet in Heidelberg. Her main academic interests are European identity with focus on immigration and religion as well as political dynamics of East-Central Europe. After completing her M.A. she is planning to pursue a Ph.D. in international relations.
Lala Mehdiyeva holds a B.A. in International Law from Baku Eurasia University and a Licence (B.A. equivalent) in Law from Robert Schuman University. She has also studied at the Pompeu Fabra University during the summer 2008. Her main academic interests are the politics of the EU and Eastern Europe. After completing the M.A. program in European and Mediterranean Studies, she’s planning to pursue a M.A. in International Security and a Ph.D.
Francesca Messmer received a B.A. in Modern European History with a minor in Italian from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to entering the M.A. program at the Center for European and Mediterranean Studies at NYU, she spent two years in the interior design field. Her primary academic interests are modern Italian history and culture, and in particular the Italian Southern Question.
Felicity Palma holds a B.A. in Italian Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her primary academic interests focus on the institution of regionalism and racism throughout Europe, and the related politics and policies of the European Union. Upon completion of the M.A. program, Felicity plans to pursue a further degree in International Law and/or Affairs, and to ultimately work within the field of human rights.
Jeremy Royal holds a B.A. degree in History from Michigan State University. His primary interests are US and European relations (specifically France, Germany, and Britain), as well as European economic policy and political economy. After attaining his M.A. degree, he hopes to work as a policy researcher/analyst at either an NGO or in the private sector, with eventual plans to pursue a Ph.D. in History.
